Bobcats are solitary creatures until mating season Bobcats are solitary creatures until mating season, hunting primarily at dawn or dusk. Over the weekend, this Bobcat was seen at a local farm in broad daylight. If they are hungry enough and their hunting efforts overnight are not successful, they may scout during the day. This individual with a limp has been sighted over the past few years, surviving despite their injury. Bobcats live off of medium-sized animals like rabbits and opossums, smaller rodents, and sometimes small deer.

Grammy Award winning band The National is partneri Grammy Award winning band The National is partnering with Propeller, an organization founded to help inspire activism and help build movements for change, to raise money in support of Hawthorne Valley’s mission of fostering the joy of learning through hands-on education, supporting regenerative agriculture, and nurturing artistic expression.

Through this partnership, fans have the chance to win a VIP experience to meet The National in San Francisco at their November 10 show, attend the sound check, watch the show from the side stage, and take home a Fender Jazzmaster guitar signed by the band. In addition, two lucky fans at each US show in September through November will have the chance to win an in-venue ticket upgrade by making a donation to Hawthorne Valley during the show.

“The National is so excited to be able to support Hawthorne Valley by offering our fans and all of you the chance to win tickets and a flyaway weekend to see us in San Francisco where we’ll meet you and get to talk about Hawthorne Valley and music,” says Aaron Dessner, parent at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School and founder of The National. “We are so happy to be able to support this tremendous place.”

Calf party! We have many calves in the herd these Calf party! We have many calves in the herd these days, and this sweet one from cow Libra has some extra cuteness to her!! Maybe it’s the long lashes, or the curious look in her eye, but we think she’ll grow to be as beautiful as her stunning mama.

Libra is a twin! She and Luz were the last calves from the legendary Luna the cow. Libra and Luz are both beautiful, with Libra having a darker coat and Luz taking after her Shorthorn sire, and a red coat.

This little calf is yet to be named, but when she is named we will update you! #cowednesday
Praying mantises are masters of disguise, blending Praying mantises are masters of disguise, blending in exceptionally well with the stems and leaves of plants. You may be seeing these more often this time of year, as they reach adulthood by late summer. The Farmscape Ecology team didn’t notice this one until they looked closer at a bumblebee that wasn’t moving, and realized it was getting eaten by a praying mantis! #farmscapeecology
